Garden cress seeds ladoos
Haleem is the hindi word for Garden cress seeds. Garden cress seeds are also called as aliv in marathi. These seeds come under nuts and oilseeds food group. This haleem recipe is highly nutritious, rich in iron, calcium, fibre and good fats. Health benefits of haleem seeds are many and will be discussed on the writeup on garden cress seeds. This aliv ladoo recipe is a quick, healthy and easy snack recipe. Such homemade recipes are healthy snacks for kids. These laddoos are easy-to-make. This is a convenient to carry snack food dessert.
Makes 12-14 ladoos
Soaking time: 3 hours
Cooking time: 10 mins
Ingredients
3/4 cup (or 100 gm) garden cress seeds
1/2 cup Coconut water
1 Tbsp. Grated coconut
1/3 cup (or 60 gm) Jaggery
1 Tbsp. Ghee
1/4 cup (or 60 gm) Semolina (or rawa)
1/4 cup almonds (coarsely powdered)
Step by Step Haleem ladoo recipe
- Soak the garden cress seeds in coconut water for 3 hours. The haleem seeds completely absorb the coconut water and get fluffy. Do not drain the liquid.
Raw aliv Soaked aliv - Heat ghee in a deep vessel or kadhai. After 3 hours of soaking, add the garden cress seeds and jaggery. Stir for 1-2 minutes till the jaggery melts.
- Add semolina, grated coconut and coarsely powdered almonds. Stir continuously for sometime (about 5-6 minutes).
- Transfer the cooked haleem ingredients mix on to a plate and allow it to cool slightly.
- Take small portions of the mix in your hand while it is still warm. Shape into round balls.
- Serve in a plate or store in an air-tight container after they cool.
