De-stress to reduce distress
New Year resolution for stress management should be “self-focus” to improve your mental health, physical health and quality of life. To manage stress effectively we need to first be able to manage ourselves so we can deliver optimal results, develop better-coping skills and focus on being a better version of ourselves. Start slow, take one definite step at a time.
Top 10 ways to destress
- Go for a jog or brisk walk or swim daily no matter what
- Do not skip any meal no matter how you are feeling
- Do not feast or reach for the wrong foods. Avoid CRAP foods.
- Eat right! Foods affect moods and overall health. Consult a qualified nutritionist or dietitian for a personalized diet and lifestyle plan.
- Start writing ✍🏼 a diary about how you are feeling and what you eat with timings and quantities.
- Watch a motivational video every morning when you wake up and every night before going to bed.
- Do not allow a single negative thought to persist in your mind. Anything you think negative, remind yourself to “live in the present moment and make it beautiful”. Say it out loud if you have to.
- Buy a pet and stay busy
- Develop a new skill or hobby and do not allow your mind to be empty even for a moment. If developing a new skill doesn’t agree with your personality, then go watch a movie or do something that keeps you occupied and positive.
- Do mental relaxation and yoga daily; be it pranayamas (breathing exercises), soaking in bath salts, essential oil diffusers, pray. Do whatever works for you to reduce anxiety, destress
and bounce back with better focus and positivity. Read up our article on yoga for depression for tips to destress.
